Music in Early Years
We aim for children to:
Develop their self-confidence, and creativity
Develop skills in vocalising and singing
Develop skills in moving, exploring and dancing
Develop their hearing and listening skills
Music is taught for approximately 1 hour per week. Songs, pieces of music and compositions are chosen to complement the class’s current topic and are often included as a performance in class assemblies. In addition, songs may be sung as part of other subjects, such as French, separate from the class music lesson. Notation is introduced in KS1 through boom whackers, and developed in KS2 through learning to play the descant recorder.
EYFS Children in early years (class 1) work towards meeting their early learning goals to ensure that all children: sing songs, make music and dance, and experiment with ways of changing them. (Expressive arts and design) use what they have learnt in original ways, by representing their own ideas, thoughts, and feelings through a variety of activities in music, movement and dance.
