Forest School is a unique educational approach that provides children with regular opportunities to explore and learn in a natural outdoor environment. Rooted in child-led learning and holistic development, Forest School fosters confidence, resilience, and a deep connection with nature.
 Child-Centred Learning
Forest School is based on the interests and needs of each child, allowing them to take ownership of their learning through exploration, discovery, and play.
 Regular and Long-Term Sessions
Rather than a one-off experience, Forest School takes place over an extended period, allowing children to build confidence, revisit skills, and develop a deeper understanding of the natural world. At Aldbury, each year group gets a half term of Forest School every year equating to around 12 hours.
 Holistic Development
Forest School nurtures the whole child, supporting their physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development. Activities encourage problem-solving, teamwork, creativity, and independence.
️ Risk-Taking in a Safe Environment
Children are encouraged to take appropriate risks, such as using tools, climbing, or building shelters, under the guidance of trained practitioners. This helps develop resilience, self-confidence, and risk assessment skills.
 Connection with Nature
Forest School fosters a respect for and appreciation of the natural world. By spending time outdoors in all seasons, children develop an understanding of the environment and their role in caring for it.
 Supportive and Nurturing Leadership
Sessions are led by trained Forest School practitioners who provide encouragement, guidance, and reflection opportunities, ensuring a positive and enriching experience for every child.
At Aldbury, we embrace the Forest School ethos to inspire curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning in the great outdoors. ✨
