The Governing Body of Aldbury Church of England Primary School proposes to extend the age range of its intake to include nursery-age children i.e. to include 3-4.
Since the closure of the Aldbury Pre-School in 2014, parents of children in the village have had to send pre-school age children to facilities in nearby villages/towns. Not only is this inconvenient to parents (particularly if there are two or more siblings), but it leaves them with a difficult choice of whether to continue with primary education at the remote site (and thus deprive them/their children of the benefits of education within their own community), or interrupt continuity of education with a move of location at a very early age. Indications are that there are around 8 children per year in this situation.
The limited numbers currently spread over a number of alternative institutions means that there should be little or no adverse effect on these – and simply means a reversion to the situation pre-2014. However, it will assist in providing stability for Aldbury School, through ensuring greater certainty of intake from the village and assisting in a smooth transition into Reception.
Aldbury School is currently in the process of building a new classroom for Year 6, which will free up existing space to provide a combined classroom for nursery/reception children. All other capital costs can be met within the existing budget forecasts. Business planning indicates that running costs (primarily an additional member of staff) are viable on a minimum of 8 children.
It is currently proposed that applications will be taken for either Autumn 2019 or Spring 2020.
Public consultation on the proposal is currently open, and will close on 31st December 2018. Please send your comments by email to email@example.com, or to the school at Aldbury Church of England Primary School, Stocks Road, Aldbury, Tring, Herts HP23 5RT, by this date. Following consultation, the Governing Body intends to make a decision by the end of January 2019 and the results of this decision will be published on the school website.
