Friends Of Aldbury School

Aldbury School’s version of a parent teacher association, our FOAS committee are instrumental in directly improving the educational opportunities for our children. We are a small group of friendly and enthusiastic parents who work together to organise a wide range of fundraising events, and who liaise directly with school staff to ensure that all funds raised are spent in the most effective way possible.

We aim to create opportunities for the children and parents alike to have fun and feel part of the school community, as well as trying to raise as much money as possible for the school. We are always open to new ideas, but our events in recent years have included fairs at Christmas, a sponsored bike ride, coffee mornings, quiz nights, cake sales and more. I’m addition to these smaller events, Aldbury is well known for its annual May Fair, which in the past has predominantly been organised by FOAS and has raised over £10,000 for the school on several occasions.

These funds have improved opportunities for the children in many ways. Recently, FOAS have funded: roll down covers for the Class 2 outdoor area to enable more frequent and effective use of this extra learning space; a set of chromebooks to provide better computing opportunities across the school; new interactive whiteboards for each class; an exciting ‘reading road map’ (including hundreds of new books) to inspire a love of reading and much more besides. A few years ago, FOAS worked alongside the wider community to fund the building of the new classroom, currently occupied by Class 4. Next, we are hoping to raise enough money for another set of chromebooks, along with a storage trolley, to enable more children to access these simultaneously.

Currently our chairs are Alison (mum of Millie in Class 2) and Natalie (mum of Alfred in Class 4 and Hattie in Class 3). We always welcome new members, no matter how much you can offer in terms of ideas, time or resources, so please get in touch if you would like to get involved. Each class has a ‘class rep’ who can answer queries and/or put you in touch with the chairs. We tend to meet at least once a half term at our local pub in Aldbury, and will circulate meeting dates via the school newsletter.
